A month of heavy showers and cold weather could be coming to and end this weekend according to early weather forecasts.
Experts predict that warmer temperatures are on the way, bringing an end to the torrid conditions experienced across the UK.
As lockdown restrictions ease across the country, garden get-togethers and afternoons in the beer garden have largely been put on hold as the month of May has been a total washout.
But better weather is on the way just in time for the May Bank Holiday weekend.
The UK will have highs of 22C by May Bank Holiday Monday, according to early forecasts.
Meteorologists predict the UK could experience highs of 24C in the early days of June as summer finally looks set to arrive on British shores.
Starting this weekend with the Met Office predicting: "It is most likely that largely dry weather will continue across much of the UK.”
The Met Office said it is expecting "mainly fine and settled conditions" from Friday onwards with the May Bank Holiday weekend "feeling locally warm in southern and central areas".
As we move into June experts predict: "High pressure will be the largely dominant feature across the UK during this period.
"This will bring mainly fine and settled conditions across the UK, with temperatures recovering and feeling locally warm in southern and central areas."
And improved weather conditions can’t come soon enough as this month could go down as one of the wettest Mays on record in the UK.
The current record is 131.7mm of rain set in 1967.
