The residents of Aylesbury have questioned whether the town is in need of another McDonald’s restaurant.
The town already has two Golden Arches establishments (one on Broadfields and on the High Street), and on April 14 we reported that Aylesbury could get its third restaurant as plans have been submitted to Buckinghamshire Council.
If approved, a drive-thru will be built at the old Askey’s site in Stocklake.

However, many residents believe that a third McDonald’s restaurant is not needed in the area with many believing the space should be used for another national chain instead.
On the Aylesbury Grapevine Facebook page, one user said: “Can anyone think of anything that could go where Askeys was instead of McDonald’s?
“We legit don’t need another, and we absolutely need a Burger King, but what could go in place? Taco Bell? Wendy’s? GDK?
“Also, what is this town’s seemingly big problem with Burger King anyway?
“Have McDonald’s asked that we keep BK away? Bring BK in I say!”

The original post has got many people discussing what they would like to see go in the now available space.
One user said: “Five Guys.
“I think the ground may link to the canal so perhaps a canoe and sports centre that holds courses.
“I have a feeling there was one years ago when Stocklake social club was next door.”
Several other users/residents believe a Burger King or a Gourmet Burger Kitchen should be built but some believe that a clothes store, such as a Primark, should be on the land instead.
This person said: “We don't need ANY fast food outlet!
“There are more than enough around Aylesbury!”
Another person said: “A nursery/child care facilities to replace some of the ones that are being taken over and knocked down elsewhere in Aylesbury.”
However, it seemed that many people would be happy with a restaurant, but not a McDonald’s as Taco Bell, Wendy’s, Wimpy, KFC, Five Guys, and Nando’s were all suggested by Aylesbury residents.
The plans to turn the Askeys site into a McDonald’s drive-thru have not been confirmed as of yet by Buckinghamshire Council.
