A Greene King pub has confirmed that one of its public houses will not have its name changed if it undergoes a revamp.
A planning application for the Dairy Maid in Aylesbury was submitted to Buckinghamshire Council in March, with its proposals suggesting that the popular pub’s name was going to change to ‘The Corner House’.
The idea of the name being changed has caused outrage amongst Aylesbury residents and locals, who believe that the Dunsham Road boozer, which is next to the A4157, ‘has historical ties with the town’ and that the new name ‘has no relevance or history to it.’

However, following public anger, Greene King, who own the Dairy Maid, has confirmed to the Bucks Free Press that the pub will keep its name.
A Greene King spokesperson said: “We’re investing a six-figure sum in the Dairy Maid, both to repair flood damage caused earlier this year and also to give the pub a major refurbishment for when it reopens this summer.
“We’re hugely excited to be bringing the pub back for the Aylesbury community and as part of that had considered changing the name to highlight the fact the pub will have undergone a significant upgrade when it reopens.
“However, we have decided not to change the name after it became clear there was strong support for the Dairy Maid name to be retained.

“We are more than happy for the pub to keep its original name as we want this to be a pub for the community and we can’t wait to be able to welcome people back through the doors later this summer.
