PLANS to replace an existing garage with a “like-for-like” structure have been approved – but some locals claim there could be health problems and even ‘commercial use’.
Mr A Digby Hunt won permission to build a replacement, single-storey detached garage on a plot next to 25A Butterfield, in Wooburn Green.
Councillors voted six-five in favour of the scheme during a West Buckinghamshire Area Planning Committee, on Tuesday (April 27).

Cllr Tony Lee called in the application after “more than 40 constituents” objected to it.
However, council documents suggest 37 letters of objection had been received from just 20 residents.
Among their concerns they cited possible use as a “workshop or commercial building” and subsequent “pollution and noise”, as well as additional traffic, and that it is “out of character”.
Some also fear the site may contain asbestos.

There is no proposal for a change of use and the site is for ‘residential use and parking’, according to council documents.
There is no loss of privacy for any neighbours, despite concerns there will be, it adds.
The new garage will ‘span the width of the plot’, which is six metres, a council document states.

The site was in the ownership of 24 Butterfield and remained so after the property was sold.
A 2002 application for a replacement garage was refused on grounds it would have a ‘detrimental and adverse impact’ on neighbours and the area.
However, this was later appealed and permitted, but it was not implemented and has since lapsed.
The size and location of the replacement garage is similar to that approved at appeal, a council document states.
