PLANS to redevelop the entire site of a family-owned craft bakery and tearoom and ‘sell off’ part of the property to later incorporate a new restaurant have been submitted to the council.
A Mr B Burger has submitted to Bucks Council a ‘change of use’ application for properties relating to Burgers of Marlow, on The Causeway.
His plans will also impact 7 Station Road and 87 The Causeway, according to council documents.

The proposal includes three main parts.
The first is relocating the bakery at 7 Station Road to the rear courtyard, where a new wall and flat roof for the new bakery is planned.
Next, both the ground and first floor of 7 Station Road will be converted from a bakery and retail space to restaurant use.
Lastly, a garden building at 87 The Causeway will be used for part of the bakery extension, reports indicate.
A small shower room extension at the rear of No. 87 is also planned.

Council documents indicate the intention is to consolidate the new bakery, and ‘sell off’ 7 Station Road for use as a restaurant by a “yet unknown” new owner.
Its sale will also fund the whole project, reports indicate.

A design and access statement reads: “There is now a requirement from the site owners to be separate from the building of 7 Station Road and to remove all its ancillary bakery operations from this building that will allow for a ‘clean’ sub-division for its resale into the open market in order to fund the bakery relocation into the extension of the courtyard.”
Under ‘reasons for development’, it states: “To maximise the development opportunities for the new owners of 7 Station Road (yet unknown) by obtaining planning consent to develop 7 Station Road to a more ‘in demand’ use as a restaurant at the ground and first floor levels.”
It adds: “Therefore part of rationale for the works is to improve the efficiency of the existing premises by relocating and consolidating the bakery nearer to the main shop and to allow for the ‘sell off’ of the adjacent building at No. 7 Station Road to fund the building works required for the new bakery.
“Releasing 7 Station Road to a more viable large restaurant use maximises the site’s desirability for capitalising on the site’s great location, together with removing a lot of associated running costs that will ensure that Burgers, the long established and much-loved business of Marlow, remains viable going forward.”
It also says: “There is a high demand for restaurant use within Marlow town centre that currently remains unsatisfied.”
The applicant is now ‘awaiting a decision’ from Bucks Council.
