PLANS to convert the site of High Wycombe’s oldest curry house to a retail space have been submitted to the council.
Mrs Khalida Ali, of Bushey Close, in High Wycombe, has submitted to Bucks Council a change of use application for the Easton Street site which housed the Curry Centre Indian Kitchen.
The Curry Centre was thought to be the oldest Indian restaurant in the town and had been owned by the Ali family since it opened in 1970.

The restaurant closed its doors for refurbishment in 2017 before reopening again for a short time and then closing permanently.

The site then became a cafe called Karak Chai, which was short-lived, shutting down last year.
The Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) was unable to speak to the former restaurant owners to confirm if they are the new applicants.

Under new plans, Mrs Ali intends to convert the former restaurant to a retail space, and to convert a staff flat to a residential property, according to council documents.
And while the documents mention the “conversion of staff flat to self-contained residential unit”, they also mention “a first-floor rear extension and an additional residential unit”.
The building is Grade II Listed, and the site is currently vacant, according to the report.
The proposed two-bed property is destined for the ‘housing market’, it also states.
The applicant is now ‘awaiting a decision’ from Bucks Council.
