The people of Aylesbury have responded to the news that a gym in the town is charging its clients for full fess in April, despite not reopening until midway through the month.

Anytime Fitness on Exchange Street, notified their clients at the start of April that those who use their facilities will be charged for their full fees following a recent takeover.

This comes after gyms reopened on Monday, April 12 after stage two of lockdown restrictions were lifted across the country.

After Anytime Fitness were initially criticised by an anonymous member regarding the payment, an excerpt from the gym’s statement read: “During the latest lockdown, the Anytime Fitness Aylesbury club transitioned to new ownership in order to secure the future of this community-owned health club and ensure they can open their doors on April 12.

“This means the club and its new owners need the support of its members more than ever, after

“The decision was taken to bill members in full for April and as a locally owned business, Anytime Fitness Aylesbury is delighted to be able to reopen its doors again.

“We appreciate the members’ understanding and the club is now looking forward to supporting the local community with their health and wellbeing goals, and rewarding members for their unwavering loyalty in the future.”

However, this has not gone down well with several residents from Aylesbury who use the gym.

On Facebook, one user said: “I love the way they kept highlighting "locally ran business" and "for the community" just to reassure you they are doing a good thing for Aylesbury.

“Patronising statement and utterly see through.

“You put your business before your customer base, and you’re probably going to get the backlash from the "community" you serve now.”

This user also slammed the gym for their pricing, buy saying: “For a small gym charging £29.99 a month is a joke anyway, when PureGym is £9.99 and The Gym is £14.99 (per month) complete rip-off.”

Another said: "Good thing there are plenty of guns around Aylesbury so can go elsewhere."
