This is what you have been writing to us about this week.
When the Queen and Prince Philip came to Marlow to unveil the Steve Redgrave statue in Higginson Park, we were in the crowd and HRH came along our side, the Queen on the other.
HRH saw two young girls with flowers for the Queen. He said “are they for the Queen?” and promptly lifted both of them over the barrier and said to his security ‘please take them over to the Queen’.
They went over and gave the flowers to the Queen, while he chatted to us and their mums.
When they came back, he lifted them back over the fence to their mums and cheerily said goodbye.
What thoughtfulness, kindness and care for the young girls. They beamed with joy.
A simple humble gesture showing his care and concern for the young people of the country and the Commonwealth.
The Duke of Edinburgh Award will be his legacy, as it continues in years to come developing the children of the world to achieve their full potential and mindful of the environment.
We wonder whether the girls and their mums remember? Who were they?
Jane and Bob Savidge, Marlow
