A man who threatened a woman with a fake gun has been jailed for three years.

Adam Curtis, aged 48, of Shackleton Place, Oldbrook, Milton Keynes, was confronted by a woman outside of her property on September 19, 2020, after he verbally abused her from his property across the street.

Curtis then brandished what the woman believed to be a real gun before threatening her, leading to the woman fearing for her life.

A weapon was located by officers outside of Curtis’ property, which was later determined to be an imitation firearm.

He was charged with the offence on 20 September 2020.

Curtis pleaded guilty to one count of possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, in a hearing at Amersham Crown Court on Tuesday, February 16.

He appeared at the same court on Wednesday (April 4) and was subsequently jailed for three years and two months. He was also given an indefinite restraining order against the victim.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Serena Bellis of Milton Keynes CID, said: “This was an unprovoked and horrifying incident that happened to a young woman who was simply trying to defuse a situation that was getting out of control within her local area.

“She genuinely feared for her life, believing the weapon she was being threatened with was real and that she would be shot.

"This has significantly affected the victim since, but she has showed immense courage coming forward and giving evidence, resulting in a positive outcome.

“We will never tire to bring those to justice who seek to place other people in fear, and Curtis will now serve a custodial sentence as a result of his criminal activity.”
