Tomorrow (April 12) will see the further easing of lockdown restrictions, with non-essential retail and outdoor hospitality reopening for the first time in months and the ‘stay local’ message ending.
Pubs and restaurants will be allowed to serve food and alcohol outdoors. Unlike restrictions in December last year, there will be no need for customers to order a substantial meal with alcoholic drinks, and no curfew.
Personal care premises such as hairdressers and beauty salons will be able to open.
Indoor leisure facilities such as gyms will also open their doors; as will most outdoor attractions and settings including outdoor hospitality venues, zoos, theme parks and drive-in cinemas.
We asked our readers on our Facebook page what one thing they were looking forward to most on April 12.
Many readers said getting a haircut was at the top of their list, while many others couldn’t wait to get to shops like Primark, which will be allowed to have extended opening hours up to 10pm.

Chantelle Davies Shepherd said: “I get my hair cut [on] the 21st, can’t wait, been waiting way too long.
“Would love to go for a meal with the fella as we didn’t celebrate our 30th in January due to lockdown [and] then eventually a weekend away.”
Laura Coupe wrote: “Haircut and seeing family as I’m classed as very vulnerable,” while Paula Simms commented: “It’s all about my mum and dad, we enjoyed our 1st meal in their garden when we were allowed so I think I will be taking them for their first drink in the pub garden, The Mayflower [in Hazlemere].”
Damian Cox also said he was looking forward to getting a haircut and “getting back to sort of normality”, while Mark Brazenor said he could not wait for a haircut and a meal at a pub.
Many readers, such as Lucy Mann, Izabela Jakubowska, Mohammad Khurram Mahboob and Aaron Halliday, said they could not wait to go back to work, while others, such as Richard Gillespie, said they were waiting eagerly for pubs to reopen.
Lynne Steph Horton said: “Meeting family outside. Haircut. Second vaccination. Proper pint of beer. Some warm weather,” while Lorraine Southon said she was looking forward to meeting her friend for lunch.
Many readers also mentioned the shops reopening, with Mau Dagg looking forward to “spending some money” and Hayley Ingram commenting: “Going to Primark.”
But haircuts won by a mile, with 15 readers saying they were looking forward to getting a proper chop, with hairdresser Claire Anderson joking: “As a hairdresser I would have to say getting into my bed at the end of the day.”
