A further easing of lockdown restrictions takes place today (March 29), when the second phase of the first stage of Boris Johnson’s road map will begin.

The Prime Minister unveiled his four-stage plan to lead the country out of a third national lockdown in February.

Pupils across England returned to the classrooms on March 8 in the first stage of Boris Johnson’s road map out of lockdown.

The 'stay at home' order will lift on Monday with the rule of six set to return and outdoor sports facilities set to be reopen.

But what will the next easement of restrictions mean for travel?

Can I leave my local area for travel?

On March 29 the “stay at home” order will be lifted in England.

The messaging will be replaced with an order to “stay local” and “minimise travel”.

Unfortunately, the government has yet to elaborate on what it means by “stay local”.

The order to minimise travel, however, would suggest that visits to other parts of the country are, for now, still out of the question.

The Department of health and social care says: "people should be sensible – if you do leave home, you should stay local in the village, town, or part of the city where you live - unless there is a justifiable reason not to do so."

Can I visit tourist attractions in my area?

Outdoor attractions will be permitted to open their gates to the public on March 29.

English Heritage is among those reopening, with 50 of their sites set to be open to the public from Monday.

The charity said that “large outdoor spaces, such as historic gardens, extensive grounds and even a battlefield” would be open following the lifting of restrictions.

Sites opening up include; 1066 Battle of Hastings, Abbey and Battlefield, Dover Castle, Whitby Abbey and sections of Hadrian’s Wall.

Can I stay at self-catering accommodation?

Not yet.

The current schedule for the reopening of domestic travel will see overnight stays permitted on April 12.

Self-contained accommodation such as campsites and holiday lets, where indoor facilities are not shared with other households, will be permitted to reopen from this date.

Can I travel abroad?

No.

Holidays abroad will not be allowed, "given it will remain important to manage the risk of imported variants and protect the vaccination programme”.

A government taskforce looking into global travel will reveal its findings on April 12.

Will coach services resume?

National Express will be back on Britain’s roads from Monday when England’s “stay at home” rule ends.

This follows an 11-week suspension due to coronavirus lockdown restrictions.

The firm will initially run a limited timetable of 20 routes, which is equivalent to around 15% of its standard intercity network.

Rival firm Megabus is also resuming its operations in England and Wales from Monday.
