A SERIES of home alterations face being thrown out by the council on grounds they could be “overbearing” and “harmful”.
Mr Robert Griffiths seeks permission to build two-storey side extensions and a single-storey rear extension on a detached two-storey property, on Blind Lane, in Flackwell Heath.

But council officers claim parts of the proposal would have an “overbearing presence” and be “harmful to the character and appearance of the area”.

Mr Griffiths also plans to make roof alterations to create a partial flat roof, and second-floor living with a rear-facing balcony.
However, council officers claim the flat roof would be an “alien addition”.

Cllr David Watson considers the plan “reasonable” and has urged its approval.
Another application refused in 2020 included part single, part two-storey rear and side extensions, a balcony for a loft conversion, a single-storey front garage extension, and roof alterations.

“The proposed development, by virtue of its design, scale, massing and appearance fails to respect the local context and the character and appearance of the surrounding area,” council officers wrote.
Adding: “The proposed design is incongruous to the existing dwelling house and does not marry in well.”
They also claim the balcony will create an “unacceptable degree of overlooking” for a neighbour.
The matter is due for debate during a West Buckinghamshire Area Planning Committee, on Tuesday, March 30.
The recommendation is for refusal.
