A "rather keen Sunday cyclist" was spotted riding along the hard shoulder on the M40 yesterday.
The cyclist was caught on traffic cameras riding northbound between junction 1a for the M25 and junction 2 for Beaconsfield just before 6pm on March 21.
Highways England were forced to put in place a 50mph speed limit on both carriageways for the cyclist's protection.
Thames Valley Police's Roads Policing officers and a Highways England traffic officer were sent to the scene to speak with the cyclist.
Highways England said: "Thames Valley Police Roads Policing have stopped the cyclist in his tracks, speaking with the cyclist and giving him words of advice about using the strategic road network for cycling."
The 50mph speed limits were removed at around 6.10pm.
