A bomb was safely detonated in the Aylesbury area after being located within the town.
On the morning of Wednesday, March 17, Thames Valley Police officers in PC Andrews and PC Trotman, along with the help of the bomb disposal team, carried out the explosion.
The device was an 81mm mortar, with the bomb being detonated in Quainton, a village and civil parish in the county.
In a brief statement that was published on March 17, TVP Aylesbury Vale said: “Today started off with a bang for PC Andrews and PC Trotman!
“With the assistance from the bomb disposal team, they conducted a controlled explosion of an 81mm mortar that was located within Aylesbury.
“If you heard a loud explosion around the Quainton area there is nothing to worry about!"
The 81mm mortar is usually used for long-range shooting, with several countries using the weapon in their armed forces.
These countries include the United Kingdom, the United States, Greece, Germany, France, Finland, Italy, and Myanmar.
