Two young ponies have reportedly been "rescued" from a Wooburn Green field this evening after residents raised fears about their welfare.
Horses appeared in the field opposite Wooburn Park in Town Lane some months ago, but recently residents have raised concerns about them on social media and called the RSPCA.
One horse managed to escape from the field at the weekend and pictures from the scene show the equines eating bread, which experts say can lead to colic or laminitis.
The majority of the horses were removed overnight within the last week - but two foals remained there alone until this evening.
RSPCA inspectors were seen at the field this afternoon and a notice appeared on the fence today asking those responsible for their care and feeding to contact them "as a matter of urgency".
The two remaining foals were seen by eyewitnesses being led away from the field this evening.
When a reporter visited the scene this evening, the field was empty. One person on Facebook confirmed the young pair had been rescued.
It is not immediately clear who owns the horses, where the others have been moved to or if they are aware that the two foals have been rescued.
The British Horse Society and the RSPCA were not able to confirm any details about the case for fear of compromising any future action.
A spokesman for the RSPCA said: "Unfortunately we are unable to discuss complaints about specific individuals. We understand how frustrating that is for animal lovers but releasing information could prejudice a future investigation or could lead to us being fined.
“We are so grateful to people who report suspected animal suffering to us and we would like to reassure people we will always investigate any concerns.
“Anyone who has evidence of animals being mistreated, or is aware of any animal welfare offences being committed, should ring the RSPCA emergency helpline on 0300 1234 999.”
