A legendary former barber shop in Marlow is going to be converted into a new home.

The barber shop, at 39 Station Road in Marlow, was owned by the late Richard Silver before his tragic death in December.

Mr Silver had owned the shop for 54 years, before he was forced to close the shop in May due to the coronavirus outbreak and his own personal health issues.

Developers have now had a plan accepted to redesign the ground floor of the property in order to facilitate a new residential property.

Alongside this, an extension will be built to the rear of the first flooor in order to 'bring the building in line with the neighbouring residential extension and is in keeping with other properties in the terrace'.

A Marlow legend

Mr Silver was an avid Manchester United fan and is warmly rememberde known for decking out his shop in his team’s colours - donning the premises with several pieces of Red Devils memorabilia.

He began his apprenticeship in High Wycombe in the early 1960s and originally had a shop on Marlow High Street with his father before the duo moved to Station Road in 1966, opening up there on May 16.

The much-loved hairdresser has also cut the hair of a number of well-known residents, including Sir Steve Redgrave and his father, the late sports commentator Raymond Glendenning, the late band leader Eric Robinson and most notably the actor Tom Chambers, star of Waterloo Road, Holby City, Casualty and Emmerdale.
