VALENTINE’S Day is upon us once again – a whole 24 hours dedicated to being in love.
But for those of us not feeling so loved-up today there is a bunch of anti-valentine’s day films, filled with action, horror, and murders that will make you forget completely about what day it is.
Here is a list of anti-valentine’s day movies you should watch:
1. Thelma and Louise:
Housewife Thelma (Geena Davies), and waitress Louise (Susan Sarandon) decide to leave their other halves to take a road trip. The journey, however, quickly turns into a run-away after Louise kills a man who has attacked Thelma. They decide to escape to Mexico but are soon hunted by American police.
2. Fatal Attraction:
A romance-gone-wrong thriller, perfect for anti-valentine’s day. Happily, married Dan Gallagher has an affair with a book editor called Alex. After Dan rejects Alex, she soon becomes unhinged and starts aggressively stalking Dan. He soon realises the problem is not how he is going to hide his affair but protect his family from his estranged lover.
3. Legally Blonde:
Elle Woods shows how to turn heartbreak into success by overcoming the stereotypes against blondes. After being dumped by her boyfriend, Elle applies to Harvard Law School to try and win him back, yet soon realises she does not need him, and becomes a successful lawyer in her own right.
4. Gone Girl:
Another romance-gone-wrong thriller. In the public eye Nick Dunne and his wife Amy appear to have a blissful marriage, however, five years into their relationship Amy suddenly goes missing and Nick becomes the prime suspect. The Dunne's perfect marital image of collapses, leading to questions about how the couple truly is.
5. Marriage Story:
A Netflix Original film, perfect to watch when you do not feel like watching a romantic comedy. Throughout the film, the married couple divorce, then work their way through how to care for their child, despite leaving on opposite sides of the country.
6. Get Out:
Another horror film, showing a relationship gone wrong. Jordan Peele’s psychological thriller shows sometimes it is okay not to get too invested in a relationship.
7. The First Wives Club:
Depressed by her ex-husband’s marriage to a younger woman, a middle-aged divorcee commits suicide by jumping from her penthouse. At the funeral, her former university friends reunited for the first time in almost 3 years. When the group discovers why their friend killed herself, they realize their ex-husbands have taken them for granted and decide to get revenge.
8. Terms of Endearment:
A film about the strength of a mother and daughter’s relationship. After widow Aurora Greenway daughter Emma’s marriage fails after she catches her husband cheating, Emma returns to her mother. Emma becomes unwell and her mother takes care of her, helping her make peace with her husband.
9. The War of the Roses:
After 17 years of marriage Barbara and Oliver Rose want to split up, yet neither wants to leave their lovely home. This results in a domestic war, where the pair fight over the large home, resulting in much bloodshed.
10. Kill Bill:
A former assassin, known as The Bride, wakes up from a four-year coma after her jealous ex-lover Bill trying to murder her on her wedding day. Fuelled by revenge, she decides to get even with everyone who contributed to the loss of her unborn child, wedding day, and four years of her life. The hit list ends up being extremely long.
