A mum-of-two from High Wycombe who set up an initiative to give unused IT equipment to help children access lessons from home during lockdown has said she is “blown away” by the community’s response.
Carole Arnold set up Pass It On High Wycombe to collect unused IT equipment and redistribute it to local families who are struggling to access remote lessons.
It comes after schools in England were closed with a day’s notice after the Christmas break, with the Prime Minister plunging the nation into a third lockdown after a new variant of Covid spread rapidly across the country.
The initiative has given out dozens of devices so far – but since it has been announced schools will not reopen until at least March, Carole has had requests every day.
She said: “We’ve had requests from at least 50 families.

“So far, we’ve given out 64 laptops and tablets which is amazing. I’m just blown away by it.
“Sixty-four children are now able to access lessons because of this.”
Carole said parents who have had devices sent for their children have told her it has “changed their life”.
She added: “They say their children are bounding out of bed to get to their lessons because they have the equipment.
“People’s generosity has been amazing. It has been such a privilege to be able to make such a difference.
