Alterations to Princes Risborough development approved

Carrington Homes Ltd has won approval to alter a feature of an agreed planning application for Wellington Avenue in Princes Risborough.

It involves changing a previously approved rooflight on the rear of one unit serving a bedroom, with a small dormer window.

Outline permission to tear down two existing bungalows on site in favour of nine two-bedroom apartments and a single two-bed bungalow with new access was granted in 2018.

A following application relating to “appearance, scale and landscaping” was approved later that year.

This application is an amendment to the latter.

Cllr Alan Turner previously said the addition of a dormer window “will produce an unacceptable level of overlooking”. His claim was contested by council officers.

He later added: “To be perfectly clear, from the outset this was an extremely unneighbourly development.

“With the exception of the next-door retirement home…this is a road of bungalows and this development is very much out of keeping.”

Cllr Gary Hall added he felt the change is “hideously intrusive” and that it made him feel “really uncomfortable”.

Planning committee members voted to approve the application on February 2.
