Residents in Little Marlow are worried a huge film set, rumoured to be for a Star Wars TV show, could be there longer than planned as Covid-19 affects the filming schedule.

An application for temporary permission for continued use of the Spade Oak nature reserve for film-making purposes between May 1, 2021, and November 1, 2021, has been supported by the Little Marlow parish council.

Charles Brocklehurst, the property and assets chief at Buckinghamshire Council, initially suggested the filmmakers could be gone by spring 2021 but with delays in filming this looks unlikely.

Little Marlow parish council has said approval should be subject to operating hours of 7am to 7pm on Monday to Friday, 7am to 2pm on Saturday, and no activity on Sunday.

However, local resident, Martin Braint, has expressed his concerns over the film set that has caused disruption “24 hours a day”.

He said: “We thought the filming would be temporary and small scale.

“Film-making of this scale requires hundreds of vehicle movements every day.

“They are starting at 5am, finishing after 8pm and working weekends.

“They rely on power from generators, dozens of them, many running 24 hours a day.

“And the council is keen to make this kind of development a permanent fixture of the Country Park.

“We really do need wide, open, peaceful spaces to relax in and enjoy.”

Others are worried the traffic problem the site causes could only be made worst as over 200 cars were seen parked beside the film set.

Pamela Esseen said: “We already have a considerable traffic problem in this area.

“In the morning, traffic on the A404 backs up past the Little Marlow junction, so it takes a long time to access the A404.

“I can’t get out onto the main road and once I do, traffic is backed up from Marlow.”

Some locals are also concerned it could also be further developed becoming a permanent feature in Little Marlow.
