PLANS to demolish one property in favour of a new apartment block have been opposed on grounds of “overlooking” and inadequate parking.

Aquinna Homes has applied to tear down a two-storey, detached property on North Park, in Chalfont St Peter, and in its place erect a three-storey block of five two-bedroom apartments.

The new build would feature rear balconies, 10 parking spaces and a communal rear garden.

However, Cllr John Wertheim called in the application citing overdevelopment, insufficient parking, and loss of privacy for neighbours due to “overlooking”.

Chalfont St Peter Parish Council echoed his concerns.

Council officers state the new block would be “harmful to the character of the area” and that of neighbours, according to council documents.

It would also be “large and bulky” and therefore “cramped”, they added.

The new build’s “increased density on site would result in a significant detrimental impact on the designated Burnham Beeches Special Area of Conservation”, the report states.

Further, it would “appear overbearing when viewed from the rear garden” of a neighbour.

It is felt the benefits of the new block “are not sufficient to outweigh the harm”, the report says.

A dozen objections have been submitted to previous and amended versions of Aquinna’s application.

The matter is due for debate during an East Buckinghamshire Area Planning Committee, on Tuesday, February 9. The recommendation is for refusal.
