A big expansion in Marlow’s effort to make the town more environmentally friendly has got underway this week.

Marlow Town Council announced a 'Sustainable Marlow programme' where an independent environmental consultant has been hired.

The consultant, Nick Rowcliffe, will advise on priorities, recommend policies, and deliver creative projects working with the community.

A detailed audit of the council’s greenhouse gas emissions will be published following a commitment made last year to reduce emissions across Marlow.

Council Leader, Jocelyn Towns, said: “We recognise a growing desire from residents for a greater local focus on sustainability.

“Our aim is to work with all sections of the community to make change happen.

More action will be taken on the programme by the council to reduce air pollution, boost wildlife conservation and encourage active transport.

She continued:  “As a small council we have limited powers to influence behaviour change.

“Therefore our main focus is on informing and encouraging, working in conjunction with other interested parties to ensure a concerted effort.”
