Flood warning for Milton Keynes as heavy rain is expected

Heavy rain is expected to hit large parts of the country this month, and while the river levels are continuing to fall slowly in the Newport Pagnell Cemetery river gauge, there are concerns that the downpour, which is expected to happen overnight [January 19/20], could cause flooding.

Gov.uk said: “River levels are continuing to fall slowly at the Newport Pagnell Cemetery river gauge, but remain high downstream.

“Consequently, the risk of flooding remains.

“We expect flooding to affect the River Great Ouse from Newport Pagnell to Roxton.

“Heavy rainfall is forecast on Wednesday, January 20.

“We expect river levels to remain high over the next few days.

“We are closely monitoring the situation.

“Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and avoid contact with floodwater.”

Bucks and MK Fire’s Twitter page also said: “A lot of rain is expected over the next few days.

"Please don't ignore ‘road closed’ signs, or drive into floodwater - it can be a lot deeper than you think.”

Heavy rain has battered the north of Buckinghamshire since the back end of 2020.

On December 23 and 24, Buckingham and Stony Stratford were hit with sudden showers which caused numerous floods and damage to those who live in the area.

At the start of the year, large parts of north Aylesbury were also impacted by flooding, with images showing Haywood Way, the football stadium of Aylesbury Vale Dynamos, being completely underwater.

Areas such as Watermead, which is known for its lake, were also flooded due to the heavy rain.
