A WYCOMBE worker has picked up a prize for designing a system which would help dams to cope with flooding.
Paul Farnell, who works for environmental engineers and water experts MWH at the offices in Terriers House, Amersham Road, High Wycombe, won £200.
The British Dam Society Prize Competition takes place every two years and is open to engineers under 35 years of age, with a shortlist of four presenting their work in London.
The finalists presented papers on dam-related work they have been involved in to an audience of 70 people. A panel of judges then decided on the winner.
The 30-year-old senior civil engineer, of Ruislip, said: "I have to say it was quite a nerve-wracking experience as this was the largest audience I have ever presented to.
"My paper looked at a project on a dam in northern England to upgrade the overflow facilities to ensure that in the case of probable maximum flood the dam could cope safely.
"I was encouraged by my boss Ian Carter to enter the competition.
"It was an excellent experience and the money will come in handy for Christmas."
