According to the north London practice, the existing property was not of “particular value”.
Monkey Lodge is believed to have stood in the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) for around 140 years, according to the Architects’ Journal.
The new build, which will “reflect local barn architecture and use local materials”, is described as a “celebration of sustainability”.

It has a gross internal floor area of 200 sqm, sustainable heat systems, photovoltaic panels, rainwater harvesting and a pond to reuse the water.
The new property will have a minimum of three bedrooms and will not outsize the footprint of the old one.
Construction is scheduled to begin early next year.
