HENLEY MP BORIS Johnson has launched a new green scheme to supply free low energy lightbulbs to Chiltern parishes.
The prospective London Mayor candidate also unveiled the new solar panels at the Chilterns Conservation Board office in Chinnor. The electronic display shows how much electricity the photo voltaic solar panels are producing and how much carbon they are offsetting.
Eight of the panels were recently installed on the office roof and when working at peak levels, produce enough electricity to power all the equipment and lights.
The Conservation Board, which formed in 2000 to conserve and enhance the natural beauty and increase awareness and understanding of the Chilterns Area of Natural Beauty, has set itself the target of being carbon neutral by 2011.
Their programme is to give away low energy light bulbs to parish councils for use in public buildings, aiming to save several tonnes of carbon dioxide each year.
Any Chilterns parish interested in the free bulbs should contact Donna Hunter at the Chilterns Conservation Board on 01844 355504.
