The people of Marlow have reacted to the news that one of the town’s favourite barbers has shut after more than five decades.
Richard Silver, who owns the hairdressers on Station Road, announced on May 11 that his popular shop has closed after 54 years in service due to the current coronavirus pandemic, lockdown and his own health issues.

Following the announcement, the people of Marlow have come to together to send their well-wishes to one of the town’s favourite sons.
Speaking on Facebook, James Thompson said: “Happy retirement Richard Silver.
“Thank you for cutting my hair since I was a boy and thank you rivalry of Arsenal vs Manchester United.”
Neil Gowen said: “My late dad used to take me there when I was a small child, what a shame,” with Robert Redfern adding, [I] will miss my trims and chats.”
Jo-Kev Hay said on Facebook: “Wow, blast from the past.”
“He used to cut my hair in the early 90s when I worked at the angler.
“A great guy and a big Man Utd fan.
Yendall Burne said: Thank you Richard Silver for the haircuts and football debate for the last 22 years.
“As an Arsenal fan we always had a healthy debate on the state of our teams and the Premier League.

“Enjoy your retirement.”
Sean Leadbetter then added: “I remember getting our haircuts here, never forget all the Man Utd memorabilia.”
Due to the sudden closure, Marlow resident has Dave Pering has decided to give the much-loved barber a proper send-off, by setting up a Just Giving page in his honour.
The aim is to raise more than £500 for Richard, which is part of his retirement fund.
After setting up the page on May 11, Dave said: “Let’s all give Richard one last haircut payment to help him in his enforced retirement.
“My last haircut there cost me £9 as a guide but any amount would be gratefully received.
“Thank you and let’s support this legend.”
