An 87-year-old was ambushed from behind on Tuesday evening, before having cash and a bank card stolen from him.
Between 9.50pm and 10.10pm on Tuesday evening, the 87-year-old left Paddy Power bookmakers' and was walking along Granville Street in Aylebsury.
He was then approached from behind and hit, causing him to fall onto the pavement face first.
His wallet containing a bank card and £10 was then stolen from him.
The victim suffered a cranial bleed and also knocked out some teeth when he hit the ground. He also suffered extensive swelling to the right hand side of his face.
He's currently in hospital receiving treatment for his injuries.
No description of the offender or offenders is available at this time.
Investigator Hannah Mitchell of Aylesbury CID, said: “This incident has left an elderly man with serious injuries, and I am appealing for anyone with any information relating to it to come forward and speak to us.
“If you witnessed this, or have any other details which you think could help us track down the person or persons responsible for this violent incident, I would urge you to get in touch by calling the Thames Valley Police non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 43200090463.”
