A new collective of like minded independent candidates are joining together under the banner of Residents for Chesham in the run up to this year’s local elections on May 7.
They all believe that national politics has no place in local communities and "intend to truly represent the people of Chesham".
The Residents for Chesham have a collection of aims and ideas for the town.
These include:
- They firmly believe that brownfield sites should be explored exhaustively for development before green belt land is even considered.
- The existing transport infrastructure supporting Chesham needs to be over-hauled before any form of development.
- There should be periods of free parking around the town centre on weekdays to help stimulate the local economy.

- There should be a thorough examination of how to revitalise Chesham’s shopping area – why are there so many empty shops ?
- Local environmental groups need more support to help protect local waterways and wildlife. Efforts should be make to help Chesham more effectively deal with prolonged spells of bad weather.
Residents for Chesham have been inspired by other towns such as Uttlesford in Essex, which have removed national politics from these types of elections.
