A huge sinkhole has opened up in the middle of a field popular with dog walkers in Wooburn.

Visitors to Sappers Field, off Kiln Lane, were shocked to discover a massive hole in the grass on Saturday.

Because the hole was so big - and apparently continued to get bigger after parish council staff arrived at the site - the whole field has had to be shut off for the safety of walkers.

According to Wooburn and Bourne End Parish Council, the six-acre Sappers Field was created by a group of Royal Engineers on the site of an old council landfill site.
