Buckinghamshire will receive £576,500 in funding as part of the Government’s Rough Sleeping Initiative.

This announcement is part of the work that the Government is doing to 'honour their manifesto commitment' to end rough sleeping by the end of this parliament.

Dame Cheryl Gillan is 'delighted' at the announcement.

Ms Gillan said: “This announcement from the Government is an important stepping stone in ending the blight of rough sleeping.

“While there is more to be done, such as examining the case for repealing the Vagrancy Act, I believe that this funding is crucial to carry out important work in Chesham and Amersham to enhance services that connect people with the right support and get people off the streets.”

Dame Cheryl has written to the Local Authority for details on how much of this funding will be allocated to the constituency and which local areas and services will benefit specifically.

Rough sleeping has increased by over 150% since 2010 and in 2018 it was estimated that there was almost 5000 people in the UK who were ‘rough sleepers’.
