A streetlamp in Marlow has finally been fixed after being out of action for nearly two years.

The lamppost, which is situated on a path between Wethered Road and Oak Tree Avenue, was finally repaired just before Christmas last year, after it was first noticed as broken at the end of 2017/start of 2018.

Following the repairs, a new fence has been installed which has made the alleyway lighter, wider and easier for people to pass through.

The news was announced in the latest report by the town council's leader Jocelyn Towns who told the Free Press: “I’m delighted that the lamppost has finally been fixed, but I have no idea why it took so long."

A spokesperson from Transport for Bucks said: “We first received a street lighting fault report for a pole bracket located in the footpath that leads from Wethered Road to Oak Tree Avenue, Marlow on November 28, 2019.

“A street lighting repair crew attended the pole bracket in the footpath and fitted a new 50W lamp, tested it, and left the unit fully operational on December, 12, 2019.

“But on December, 18, 2019, we received an email saying that the unit was still not working.

“As a result, a street lighting repair crew was sent out on December, 23, 2019 to check the unit for a second time and also to check the two other units along the footpath to ensure lighting was fully operational.

“All units were working correctly."

They then continued: “Whilst the street lighting crew were on site, a resident intervened and stated that the non-operational light was in fact a pole bracket in an entirely different location – the pole bracket, which had been reported as being on the footpath, was actually located approximately 20-30 meters away, opposite a car park.

“As a result, unfortunately, the damaged light in question had not been reported correctly to TfB, which caused a delay to the repairs.

“However, the street lighting crew on site repaired the unit and left it fully operational.”
