A Wycombe District Councillor has thanked the ‘quick and brave police officers’ from Thames Valley Police after she witnessed an alleged assault in Marlow on December 17.
Julia Wassell, who stood as an Independent candidate in this year’s General Election, reportedly saw a gentleman who sells a popular magazine outside Sainsbury’s Local get knocked off his chair, before being supposedly punched, kicked and strangled.

The former Labour councillor reportedly screamed for help before members of the public intervened.
It is then heard that the alleged perpetrator ran down the High Street towards Spittal Street whilst being chased by Wassell.
But after looking over his shoulder and seeing the councillor, the supposed culprit turned around and pursued Cllr Wassell, before being tackled by police.
Speaking of the incident, Cllr Wassell said: “I had the day off so I decided to go into Marlow to do some Christmas shopping, and I was quite shocked at what I saw.
“It was terrifying.

“I was swinging my laptop bag around to try and stop him and was screaming 'help' as this man wouldn’t stop.
“It seemed like it was a spontaneous attack.
“When the man chased me down the street, I hid in Crown Lane before going into an estate agent.
“I told them what was going on and they were very friendly and helpful.
“The police then arrived and they too were tremendous.
“They were very quick, arrested the man and they were very reassuring to us.
“The man who sells the magazines was back there again after a few hours after receiving hospital treatment, but it was clear to me that he was shaken.
“It was incredibly terrifying.”
A spokesperson from Thames Valley Police said: “Thames Valley Police officers were called at about 9.45am on Tuesday, December 17, following reports that a man had been assaulted in High Street, Marlow.
“Officers attended the scene and arrested a 51-year-old man in connection with the incident.
“He has since been released under investigation.
“An investigation into the incident is taking place and anyone with any information is asked to call Thames Valley Police on 101.”
