Burglars were disrupted as they broke into a Stokenchurch house overnight at the weekend.
The burglars broke a lock in the back garden of a home in Collyer Road at 2.30am on December 8 and accessed the back door key from inside the lock.
A resident in the house was woken up by the noise and the burglars fled - with the back door key in hand.
There is no description of the burglars available.
Investigating officer, PC Joseph Windsor, of High Wycombe police station, said: “I am appealing for witnesses to this incident of burglary.
“If anyone was in the area at this time and may have seen or heard something, please come forward with any information you may have."
