A FLOODED underpass that is blighting High Wycombe's heritage trail is not set to be fixed until the end of June.

The pedestrian underpass which runs under Abbey Way is well-used by parents and young children as well as cyclists heading to and from the town centre and The Rye - but is submerged under metres of water.

The water is filled with cigarette butts and rubbish.

The underpass forms part of the High Wycombe Heritage Trail which takes in key sites around the town.

Complaints about the underpass have been reported in the Bucks Free Press as far back as 2002, when parents feared the flooding could lead to the death of a child.

And the issue was highlighted again in this paper in December last year.

Transport for Bucks says it is aware of the issues with the underpass - and it is expected to be back in service by the end of June.

A spokesman said: "The two submersible storm pumps have failed and need to be replaced.

"We are working with our supply chain partners to get these replaced as soon as possible.

"In the meantime, members of the public will need to use the pedestrian crossing nearby.

"The pumps will be replaced and the subway will receive a thorough clean before the subway is reopened. "
