THE new two-way traffic layout in High Wycombe is now live - and seems to be working relatively well.

When the Bucks Free Press visited at rush hour on Wednesday, traffic was flowing well and most drivers obeying the new rules.

However, in 15 minutes we spotted two drivers who attempted the now-illegal right turn into Easton Street from Queen Victoria Road.

Bucks County Council project manager Ian McGowan said that though the system seems to be working well, they were expecting 'a few teething issues'.

One car and a van took the right turn, including one driver who swerved into the path of oncoming traffic on Easton Street, which is now two-way.

Staff are stationed at the junction to stop drivers from attempting the manoeuvre, and after a word from police staff, the car was allowed to drive away - on the correct side of the road.

A white van could also be spotted ignoring the points of crews on site and making the right turn as it was heading up towards Amersham Hill.

Many more cars could be spotted indicating right at the post office to take the prohibited right turn.

The majority then realised their mistake once they saw the police staff directing them onwards.

The junction will be attended by staff for at least another day, after which project managers hope people will have got used to the system and won't attempt the right turn.
