The Chesham and Amersham Conservative Association have confirmed that Dame Cheryl Gillan MP will stand as the representative for the Conservative Party at the next general election.
On Twitter, the association announced: “We are delighted to announce that @caca_tories have selected @CherylGillan to be our @Conservatives candidate at the next general election.”
Replying to the post on Twitter, Cheryl said: “Honoured to be reselected as the Conservative prospective parliamentary candidate for Chesham and Amersham. Thank you for your support.”
Dame Cheryl was elected as MP for Chesham and Amersham at the 1992 general election, taking over from long-serving MP Ian Gilmour.
During her career in the House of Commons, she has served as Shadow Wales Secretary from 2005-2010, before spending two years from 2010-2012 as the Wales Secretary in the Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition.
Dame Cheryl thanked constituents for their support last month, following the sad death of her husband Jack Leeming,w ho had worked part time in Cheryl’s office in his retirement.
