HIDING behind a keyboard - and sometimes an anonymous username - is the modern way to tell someone you don’t agree with their views.
In tense political times, this practice is regularly exercised by thousands of people, all wanting to have their two cents on the latest developments.
For Tom Walker - more commonly known as Jonathan Pie - the only way to muddle through all of the chaos is to take the form of a fictitious news reporter.
Pie appears frequently on all of our social media timelines, ranting about a variety of political topics; although Brexit tends to dominate his conversation. Hardly a surprise.
Following a sell-out UK tour of his 2018 live show ‘Back To The Studio’ the frustrated news reporter will be back on stage again this autumn.
The brand-new UK tour will visit major venues across the country and includes a performance at the Swan in High Wycombe on November 7.
Speaking about his latest tour, he said: “This new show is going to be a similar combination of up to date politics, but with a more dramatic arc.
“Ultimately, Pie is a character, so I can make him say or think anything I want. He can be right. He can be wrong. He can be articulate, and he can be crass.
“But he’s a complex character politically. He’s left wing but is often found to be berating the excesses of the liberal elite.
“He hates Trump but understands his supporters’ reasons for voting the way they did. And ultimately, I think he is confused about Brexit.”
In ‘The Fake News Tour’ fans can expect more of the same from the outspoken political commentator, as he attempts to separate fact and fiction.
Although he enjoys his role and conjuring debate, he admitted it does come with the downside of receiving criticism.
He added: “Pie is all about debate, but I have never courted controversy. Not for one moment.
“Unfortunately debate and Twitter are rarely easy bedfellows. No one could ever really be prepared for how vicious social media can be and Pie is on the receiving end of a lot of abuse by virtue of the fact that not everyone is going to agree with everything.”
