Travellers who pitched up in Marlow this week allegedly put up a sign warning people against evicting them from the site.
A sign was seen at the Eclipse site, in Globe Business Park (GBP), saying: “This is not a residential building within the meaning of section 144, Legal Aid Sentencing and Punishment Offenders Act 2012 because it was not designed or adapted before the time of our entry for use as a place to live.
“The provisions of section 144 are therefore not applicable to this building or to our occupation of it. Part II, Criminal Law Act 1977 (as amended by the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994) does apply.
“Take notice: that we occupy this property and at all times there is at least one person in occupation.
“That any entry or attempt to enter into these premises without our permission is therefore a criminal offence as any one of us who is in physical possession is opposed to such entry without our permission.
“That if you attempt to enter by violence or by threatening violence, we will prosecute you. You may receive a sentence of up to six months’ imprisonment and/or a fine of up to £5,000.
“That if you want to get us out, you will have to issue a claim for possession in the County Court or High Court.”
It comes after around 200 travellers who descended on High Wycombe were said to be mourning the death of a young pregnant woman who died in a car crash with her husband.
The group was said to be holding a wake following the funeral of pregnant Shauna McDonagh, 18, who died in a horrific car crash in West London alongside her husband Patrick on February 10.
Margaret McCarthy, chair of Globe Park BID (Business Development District), said: “Around 15 vans moved onto the Eclipse site on Monday evening. It is understood that access was gained from the rear of the property via Fourth Avenue.
“The managing agent instructed bailiffs immediately and an eviction notice was issued to take effect on Wednesday (March 6) at 11am.
“The local policing team attended site with the bailiffs on Wednesday and the travellers eventually left site at around 6pm.
“Due to the mixed use and ownership of GBP, specific security arrangements are managed by individual businesses/Managing Agents.
“The GBP BID are looking to put forward a site wide strategy to businesses which would allow a more connected and coordinated approach to security across GBP.”
