The Potters Arms has a simple motto and customer promise: Eat. Drink. Laugh. Sleep.

All of which is on offer in spades at this exceptionally friendly local village pub and bed and breakfast.

If you look up friendly landlord in the dictionary you will see Richard, at the helm of The Potters Arms. He cannot get enough of engaging with the community, hosting charity events, themed food nights and the area’s leading comedy festival.

The Potters Arms is known for generous portions and our sharing starter of the Spicy Chicken Satay (£10.50) was no exception.

The pub and restaurant has a traditional menu, with some Thai additions on offer for those with a leaning towards spice, enter my husband and I.

I was delighted to follow up the succulent chicken starter with the Homemade Thai Red Chicken Curry (£14.50), a deliciously creamy yet light flavour with courgette taking a leading role and optional chillies served atop the mound of rice so each diner can customise the dish to their spice requirements.

My husband Nicholas had the Homemade Pie of the Day - Smoked Ham and Turkey (£12.50), this also had a fantastically flavoursome and rich sauce that is a testament to the chefs at The Potters Arms.

The pie was topped with light and delicious pastry, and served with buttered vegetables. If your mouth is beginning to water now, consider the Belgian White & Dark Chocolate Brownie (£6.95) to finish a feel good meal.

The chef’s wife is from Thailand, and every Saturday you can head down for the Thai night. Served in addition to the regular menu, you can do as we did and mix and match from the pub and Thai dishes or select either one.

Unsurprisingly, the Thai specials menu has really taken off, and on a recent inspection Brakspear pub group awarded The Potters Arms its second 100 per cent rating, an accolade only two pubs have ever managed.

With regular events being held at the pub, lunch pots on sale each day and a roaring Sunday roast on offer, isn’t it time you popped in to see Richard and his team in Winchmore Hill?

The wonderful food is just a small part of the magnificent operation Richard and his superb team run at such a delightful pub.

Comedy events continue to have the crowds roaring with laugher and they manage to entice the likes of Zoe Lyons to one of their comedy nights in their marquee on the green opposite.

Another real coup for the pub is the appearance of Britain’s Got Talent winner Lost Voice Guy at Christmas for one of their shows. Brilliant entertainment, brilliant food. What more do you want?
