HOUSEHOLDERS in Marlow will soon get the chance to discover their green credentials.
John Laker, 61, of Spinfield Lane, Marlow, will launch his free survey this week - which assesses energy usage - by looking at people's transport, waste management, investments, water, shopping and gardening.
The project, called Marlovert, aims to encourage people to reduce their carbon footprint for the benefit of future generations.
Keen to go green, Mr Laker gave up his job in a packaging company last year to train as a domestic energy assessor responsible for issuing Energy Performance Certificates as part of the Home Information Pack.
Now having recently passed his domestic energy assessor exam, he believes he will soon have the technical knowledge to help people realise their green potential.
He said: "The main thing is if you go through the questions and say ahh I want to find out more about that', I may be able to tell you straight away or I may have to come back to them."
Mr Laker plans to offer advice if a person requests it and can recommend products, which if a customer decides to buy, will provide him with commission to cover the survey's costs.
The survey also emphasises the need for ethical investment.
Mr Laker said: "I think things to do with saving the planet are things that will make people money in the future. People can think let's do something else, let's do something positive'.
"The survey even suggests the idea of a voluntary two-child family. The population in the UK has risen dramatically in recent years. Probably a good chunk of that is people coming in, but still the overall effect is the amount of people having more children and people living longer.
"Someone once worked out that the sustainable population of the UK was 30million. On that basis we have twice as many people than we can feed. We are talking about the continuation of our species.
"You have the power to affect things. No one personally does, but if a thousand people do something, they can."
