A kind-hearted laundrette owner who offered a free washing service for the town’s homeless population has now helped almost 100 people - and hopes to offer his services to even more as winter approaches.
Qumar Aziz, who owns The Laundry Room in Desborough Road, was inspired to offer his services for free after he saw a man asking for money outside the laundrette so he could wash his clothes in February this year.
He said: “I felt so bad for him, it was pouring with rain so I asked him to come inside and I offered to wash his clothes for free.”
After the Bucks Free Press published his story, a number of the town’s homeless people started visiting to get their clothes washed.
Speaking about the service, Mr Aziz said: “Word is spreading and we have had approximately 97 people use our service since we started offering it in March.
"We had no idea it would be so successful when we started doing this, but we just wanted to give something back to the community.”
He hopes that more people who are sleeping rough will take advantage of the services as winter approaches.
He added: “Winter is a very hard time to be sleeping on the streets so I just want people to be aware that we are here and that we will wash their clothes for them.
"I also want to say thank you to the whole community for the support.”
