Work has started on transforming a historic community centre in High Wycombe into a Cuban restaurant and nightclub.
Builders moved into the former Reggie Goves centre in Paul’s Row this week and management hope the new venue, which is expected to facilitate up to 600 people, will be open by October.
The Club Havana plans were revealed in April and the building will now be “rejuvenated” to mimic the Cuban architectural style using pastel colours.
The community centre was opened by Princess Diana more than 25 years ago and Club Havana managementpromised her legacy will live on as the plaque commemorating the royal’s visit will remain intact.
Developers confirmed with building will still be available to rent by members of the public amid concerns community centres are becoming a thing of the past.
The new project forms part of Wycombe District Council’s Old Town Renewal Project.
