DOVECOT car park lost all 30 of its ground floor spaces this week as work on the new Sainsbury's store continued.
And more "significant" changes to the multi-storey are expected in the next few weeks when the spiral ramp will be closed off.
The spaces from the ground floor were closed off on Monday so builders could start work on diverting a stream that runs under the site.
However the ten short stay spaces and ticket machine will be moved to Sainsbury's current car park in Dovecot Road and signs have been put up to re-direct shoppers.
Traffic in and out of the car park will soon become two-way so the spiral ramp can be shut and improved before it re-opens in spring 2008.
The redevelopment works to the car park go hand in hand with the relocation of Sainsbury's to Oxford Road.
Other works around the site include temporary lane closures in surrounding roads so the shabby buildings fronting Oxford Road can be demolished, and so a new access to the site can be made from Archway.
Richard Haynes, development executive at Sainsbury's, said: "Whilst it is inevitable that there will be some disruption during the works, we are working closely with the council to keep this to an absolute minimum.
The new £45million supermarket is expected to be open by 2009 but until then the current store will stay open to shoppers.
