As plans emerged to replace a community centre Princess Diana opened in 1989 with a restaurant and nightclub we unearthed some pictures of the royal visit.
The images taken more than two decades ago show the Princess greeting huge crowds lining the streets, before moving into the Reggie Goves Centre in Paul’s Row.
The historic visit made global headlines after Dunkirk veteran, Charles Bristow, joined the Princess for a dance during the opening party.
