Prime Minister David Cameron has announced he will resign after residents of the United Kingdom voted to leave the EU.

Pressure has been growing on the PM throughout the morning after it was revealed the UK was heading for Brexit, despite repeated warnings by Mr Cameron.

Speaking live to the nation in the last few minutes he announced that he would be stepping down in the next few months, with a new leader needed by October.

Earlier this morning, Conservative MP for Wycombe and Vote Leave campaigner Steve Baker called for the government to make adjustments.

Just over an hour later, the Prime Minister has announced his resignation.
