The former Penn School is believed to have been sold to a government agency after it was put up for sale by administrators.

The school site in Church Road, which was a non-maintained day and boarding school for pupils with communication difficulties, was sold to the Education Funding Agency (EFA) around ten days ago, according to a spokesman for Deloitte.

The EFA, which was formed in 2012, is responsible for distributing funding for state education in England, as well as managing the estates of schools and colleges.

Penn School was forced to close in July last year after a "considerable drop in student numbers and income."

The closure left staff without a job and forced parents to find new schools for their children.

Deloitte had put the school site up for sale for £6 million in November last year.

The EFA has yet to clarify how much they paid for the site or what they plan to do with it.
