As Wycombe Sports Centre closes for the last time tonight (Friday), we take a trip back down memory lane to look at some of the big changes and events which have taken place there in the past 40 years.
A lot has happened in High Wycombe over the last four decades, but the opening of a new Handy Cross leisure centre in January will mark the end of an era for the town.
Wycombe Sports Centre will be closed for the last time at 10pm tonight, ahead of the planned opening of Wycombe Leisure Centre – built just metres away from the old building – on January 5.
The first phase of the old gym and swimming pool was opened in 1975 after two years of construction.
Over the years, the centre has been expanded and many hundreds of thousands of people have used it, while it has often been the home to special sporting and charity events.
To mark the end of the Wycombe Sports Centre, Bucks Free Press photographer Anita Ross-Marshall had a look around one last time and we delved into our archives to find some forgotten gems.
Take a look at our gallery to see what it looked like on its final day and for a peek at some of the people who have used it and celebrated special occasions since 1975 – you may even spot yourself.
You can also share your pictures from the last 40 years of Wycombe Sports Centre and we will publish all of them in our extensive gallery.
