Amersham & Chiltern Rugby Club recorded an excellent 35-17 win against fellow London One North high-flyers Tring.
The home side got off to a quick start and after exchanging penalties with Tring a clever overhead pass allowed Sam Portland to score the first try of the game.
That try galvanised Amersham with Andy Flucker latching onto a loose ball and chasing his own kick to score and make it 17-3 at half-time.
Tring came out fighting in the second period with an early try before a smart sidestep from Joe Butler and a well-placed grubber kick gave George Wood the chance to go over in the corner for Amersham.
By now Amersham were in full flight and a powerful scrum saw Michael Brothers score their fourth try and secure a valuable bonus point.
The scoring was not over though as the ever-impressive Wood ran from inside his own half and with a inspired reverse pass put Brothers in for his second try of the match.
The result sees Amersham & Chiltern move above Tring into second in the league and they now sit just six points behind league leaders Brentwood.
Marlow bounced back from their shock defeat against Stow-on-the-Wold a fortnight earlier to score 43 unanswered points against Thatcham in the Southern Counties North League.
Marlow had previously lost two league games on the bounce but showed the sort of defensive form that had seen them concede just seven points in the opening two games of the campaign.
The result confines Thatcham to the bottom of the table and sees Marlow move to within a point of third place Buckingham who lost 16-10 against Aylesbury.
In a clash between the two bottom sides in the South West One East league High Wycombe earned a morale boosting 44-12 win against Swanage & Wareham.
Wycombe were ahead of their opponents by virtue of point’s difference alone heading into the match at Kingsmeade Road and neither side had won a game all season.
The home side scored 20 points without reply in an opening half that showed they have more quality in their ranks than their lowly position suggests.
Wycombe continued in much the same vein in the second-half as they ran in three tries in 13 minutes after both sides had received a yellow card shortly after the restart.
Beaconsfield’s sporadic form continued as they suffered a 17-3 loss at Bletchley in the Southern Counties North division.
Drifters RFC took full advantage of Beaconsfield’s loss with a 34-31 defeat of Swindon College Old Boys meaning the B’s slipped to sixth in the table.
Their season is set to get tougher in two weeks’ time when they welcome Buckingham to Oak Lodge Meadow.
