Lib Dem manifesto: challenger, Steve Guy, will fight 'tooth and nail' to restore Wycombe Hospital's services

In addition to the town's decreased healthcare services, Steve Guy said he will seek to increase investment into renewable energy and support the Pupil Premium.

What you can expect if you vote Lib Dem:

1. Wycombe Hospital

• The decision to remove A&E from Wycombe Hospital was flawed, and didn’t take proper account of the travel times to alternatives for our large and growing population.
• I will fight tooth and nail for this to be overturned.
• I will also fight for adequate funding for this and the full range of maternity services to be restored in Wycombe Hospital. This is my number one pledge, and I invite voters to judge me on this in five years’ time.
  
  2. Education
• I will continue to support Pupil Premium funding to get a better deal for our Upper Schools.
• I would welcome a full and far-reaching investigation into the performance gap between the best and worst performing schools in our area.
• I want to see excellent education for all of our children. £2.5 billion in extra funding for education is a red line in our manifesto.

3. Housing

• Liberal Democrats have ambitious plans to build 300,000 more homes per year. It is the only way our children can hope to find home they can afford. But I do not support cramming them in to the remaining green spaces in Wycombe, like Gomm Valley.
• Instead, we want to see garden cities and even garden villages. Wycombe District also has former industrial sites which would be much more appropriate for redevelopment for housing.

4. Community Cohesion:

• I welcome Wycombe’s diverse community, and will work hard to promote good community relations and mutual understanding. This is the best way to tackle the scourge of extremism. I reject scaremongering.
• I support firm but fair immigration policies and recognise that good immigration can be beneficial to Britain.
• I believe that good English is vital for full participation in our society, and support compulsory English lessons when those with poor English skills claim Jobseekers Allowance.

5. Climate Change:

• To quote an old Native American saying, ‘we do not inherit the earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children.’ I believe we all have a responsibility to care for our environment.
• During the next parliament we seek to increase renewable energy until it accounts for at least one third of our electricity generation. We will also offer you a discount on your Council Tax if you properly insulate your home.
